The medieval fortress of the town of Budva dedicated to St. Mary, better known as the Citadel, is the most monumental architectural structure within the town walls of Budva. Dating back to the Middle Ages, this complex building is one of the most significant fortifications on the Montenegrin coast. The complex consists of fortification walls, remains of the medieval St. Mary’s church, gates, several plateaus and buildings of the former barracks.
