As you drive in from the town of Šavnik, you’ll quickly realize you’re in the right place. The canyons of Komarnica and Grabovica open up in front of you like something out of a movie. No noise, no stress – just you and the mountains.

Day One: Walking the Edge

You start your hike along the Komarnica trail. It’s not super technical, but it’s packed with adventure – some solid climbs, shaded forest paths, and jaw-dropping views that stop you in your tracks. At one point, you’re standing at the edge of a canyon with hundreds of feet of open air beneath you. Your heart’s racing, but you feel totally at peace.

Bring water, some snacks, a rain jacket (trust me, the weather can flip fast), and an offline map – cell service is hit or miss. And make sure your phone’s charged. You’ll want to snap everything.

Day Two: Biking Toward Mount Vojnik

If you're into biking, rent a mountain bike from a local family – it’s easy and affordable. The ride across the plateau toward Vojnik is pure freedom: open meadows, pine forests, and nonstop mountain views.

You’ll pass wild horses, hear nothing but the wind, and realize you don’t need a plan – just keep going.

Where to Stay

Your best bet? Stay with a local host in Šavnik. The hospitality is real, the rooms are simple and clean, and the food? Unreal. Homemade pie, fresh cheese, maybe even a shot of rakija while you swap stories with your hosts.

Practical Tips:

• Dress in layers – the weather here can shift from sunshine to rain without warning.

• Footwear: Hiking boots are a must. Don’t compromise on comfort.

• Food & water – bring your own; don’t rely on shops, as there might not be any nearby.

• An offline map or GPS app is essential.

• And most importantly, this is a protected area. Respect nature and leave no trace.
