Beg’s Tower: The Secret of the Resulbegović Family in the Heart of Ulcinj
As you wander through the narrow stone streets of Ulcinj’s Old Town, you step into a story that still holds unanswered questions.
Beg’s Tower: The Secret of the Resulbegović Family in the Heart of Ulcinj
When did the Resulbegović family arrive from Trebinje? And who was the true founder of the Ulcinj branch of this distinguished lineage?
History leads you back to the early 18th century. According to the most reliable historical records, Arslan Beg—one of the sons of Osman Pasha Resulbegović—was granted a begluk in Ulcinj: land, authority, and status bestowed together with imperial symbols and the Sultan’s recommendation. The Resulbegović family arrived not as ordinary settlers, but as trusted representatives of the Ottoman Empire.

Until 1878, they played a significant role in the political and social life of Ulcinj—first as Ottoman officials, and later as subjects of Montenegro. Over time, their story became inseparable from the identity of the city itself.
Today, this history is not something you read about. It is something you enter.
Within the historic Palata Venezia Hotel, you discover a unique cultural treasure: the Resulbegović family museum known as Beg’s Tower. Once a municipal palace, a seat of power, and a princely residence, it now stands as an impressive family museum preserving the spirit of past centuries.

As you step inside, you feel less like a visitor and more like a guest in an Oriental-style home from another era. All exhibits are arranged within a single spacious “living room,” furnished with authentic antiques, handcrafted furniture, and decorative details that today can be seen only in museums. While listening to stories of the Resulbegović ancestors and their contributions to Montenegro, history becomes vivid, intimate, and personal.
Beg’s Tower is more than a museum.
It is a place where Ulcinj quietly tells its story—and where you become part of it.
