As we penetrated the interior, it became obvious that Montenegro has true wilderness unknown in most of Europe, as its plunging gorges, high peaks, many rivers, isolation, and rugged terrain have left most of the land untouched. The Tara is in a stunningly steep-walled, thousand-meter-deep limestone gorge, its color that other-worldly turquoise blue with exceptional clarity that you see on only a few rivers in the world. I couldn't wait to raft it!

Honored as one of National Geographic Traveler Magazine's 50 Tours of a Lifetime for 2007; also selected as one of National Geographic Adventure's best new adventures for 2007.
"In many ways, National Geographic Traveler has been calling the shots like it sees them for the last 23 years, telling you the best places to go in the world. But it wasn’t until last year that we decided to compile a formal list of what we considered to be 50 of the world’s best guided tours. There’s a clear demand by travelers for truly authentic experiences, so we’ve scoured the field for trips that delve deep, provide uncommon access and, most importantly, pave the way for interaction with local people.
Our second annual collection of the world’s best tours reflects a new travel ethic: It’s possible to have electric experiences while traveling with tour companies that truly know the ropes. We used to turn our nose up at organized tours. No more — not with offerings provided by this group."
