We needed some time in nature. Looking for an outing on a rare sunny day this winter, some friends and I traveled to Drušići. Halfway between Podgorica and Cetinje, this small, sleepy village offers several possibilities for a half-day hike. The mostly-flat trails offer family-friendly hiking options.

After a few weeks of rain, we took advantage of the first sunny day in January to make a trip to the medieval fortified town of Žabljak Crnojevića, once capital of the Crnojević dynasty. This beautiful place is situated on a hill near Skadar Lake, at a distance of only 15 km (a 20 minutes drive) from Podgorica.

Given that Montenegro’s very name is a clue to its stunning, mountainous interior, it’s perhaps surprising that the country remains little known as a winter sports destination – yet the skiing here is world-class.

Exceptional snowfall, stunning pistes and charming boutique accommodation all await you in the Bjelasica mountain range, north of the capital Podgorica.

The most beautiful time of the day to visit Perast is around sunset. During the tourist season, when all resorts on the Montenegrin Coast are overcrowded, you can be sure that the atmosphere in Perast is relaxed and peaceful. It has really been a good idea to close the promenade for traffic. You can park your car at both ends of the town and hire a bike, if you don’t want to walk.

It has been my wish to explore the mountain plateau of Sinjajevina for a long time, but I knew that it would not be easy to realize such an idea, as you need a 4×4 to discover this huge mountain expanse in the heart of Montenegro. But one of these days we were invited by friends to visit Krnja Jela, a village with around one hundred inhabitants on the western side of the plateau.

Have you ever heard about Mount Siljevica? It is situated in the region of Katunska nahija, between Zagarač and Bandići (Komani), at a distance of around 20 km from Podgorica. We expected it to be a nice place for a walking tour, as we desperately needed some fresh air after several days of hard work.
