Winter has arrived in Montenegro, but only eleven days ago we spent a beautiful day on the island of Ada Bojana. It was warm and sunny with a temperature of 22 degrees Centigrade. No tourists, no traffic, no noise. Some people were fishing and others were taking a walk along the endless beach. So did we… enjoying the silence and the untouched nature.

Traveling from Podgorica (or Nikšić) to the Bay of Kotor has become much easier by the new highway Žabljak-Risan. The road has been under construction for a long time, but now it is an excellent highway passing through untouched nature, crossing the Grahovo plain (Grahovsko polje) and winding down towards the Bay of Boka Kotorska, offering breath-taking views of the Bay.

Last weekend the weather was sunny and we thought it a good idea to make a walking tour to the village of Poseljani. With its authentic architecture, stone mills and arched bridges, this village is a secret treasure in the central part of Montenegro. Post-Belgrade, we hopped on a bus and booked it for Montenegro. Even though this was a late edition to the itins, it’s long been on our list of places to explore and I am happy to report: it did not disappoint.

When people ask about our trip, questions always include, “which stop was your favorite??” Even though it’s unlikely I’ll ever commit to one answer, Montenegro is a serious contender.

This tiny country just south of Croatia is, quite frankly, gorgeous. Mountains always make for an impressive landscape, but rarely do you see them covered head to toe in leafy treetops. The shades of green, pointed tips of Cyprus trees and rugged shrubs make the mountains look like they’ve been blanketed in a shaggy green rug.
