A path for walking in snow shoes was promoted today in the ski resort Vučje within the campaign “Use the Chance of Nature”.

The campaign was realized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Tourist Organization of Nikšić and German International Cooperation GIZ.

Goal of the campaign, which is promoting nature based tourism, is mobilizing providers of tourism and complementary services in order to improve their knowledge and skills in accordance with demands of the markets and particularly the new trends in nature based tourism which is taking bigger share in the total demand.

Outdoor offers of active holiday were particularly highlighted since they are taking predominance, and accommodation and food are accompanying services. Emphasis is on tradition, authenticity and hospitality.

“Within the project “Use the Chance of Nature”, TO Nikšić, thanks to the GIZ donation of 20 pairs of snow shoes (krplje), organized a promotional tour of walking in snow shoes on the routes defined by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism whose starting point was the Ski Resort Vučje. Having in mind the fact that Nikšić is having more and more guests every year and that according to MONSTAT data about 8,000 visitors and over 18,000 overnight stays were realized in 2012, TO NIkšić together with partners from the tourism industry is working continuously on enriching the offer and promoting all capacities of municipality”, Director of TO Nikšić Dragica Popović said.

Slavica Grgurević from TO Nikšić says that great potentials for the development of Nordic disciplines and particularly walking in snow shoes led to the idea of marking the snow shoes path routes.

“Part of one of the proposed easy routes was presented today to all the present media, end users and citizens of Montenegro. The path was prepared for the promotion, it was marked with signalization, it is two kilometers long and all the participants had the opportunity to enjoy the silence, to be in harmony with nature and experience new offers on the mount Vučje. We are very grateful to Marko Blečić from the Mountain Rescue Team, who worked with me on marking the paths and who took care of the security of all participants in the tour,” Grgurević said.

According to Karin Hoerhan, GIZ Project Manager, ideal natural and climate conditions of Montenegro should be used in a sustainable way to develop offers of winter tourism such as Alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, ski tours, walking in snow shoes, snowkitting.

“This means to use chances of nature and offer recreational activities in accordance with nature preservation and sustainable development. As for the development of walking in snow shoes, all conditions are fulfilled. Apart from that, this kind of sport is ideal since it does not require special knowledge and skills and it can be learnt immediately on the field with assistance of guides from the mountain rescue teams. For this purpose GIZ has provided several pairs of snow shoes that can be rented in the ski resort Vučje. All information can be provided in the local Tourism Organization of Nikšić”, she said.
